Patrick Beaty

I am a Ph.D. Student working with Dr. Jonathan Martin investigating upper-level precursors to rapid intensification of low pressure systems. I received my bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and Climatology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2019 and my master’s degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2021.

My research interests include computer programming, midlatitude synoptic/dynamics, winter weather, teaching, and scientific communication. My current work utilizes potential vorticity inversion to relate potential vorticity anomalies at any level in the troposphere to near-surface geopotential height anomalies, which can be related to forcing for cyclogenesis.

Outside of the office, I enjoy running with my dog, Kelvin, cooking and baking, and being outside.
