August 21, 2021Tropical Storm Fred brought heavy rains and devastating flooding throughout the Eastern United States. As Fred made landfall in Florida, flash flood warnings were put in place as 8-10 inches of rain fell in some parts of Northern Florida. Approximately 36,000 people lost electricity in Florida alone.
As Fred moved north, it brought several tornadoes alongside the heavy rains. Georgia and the Carolinas both saw EF-0 and EF-1 tornadoes, and both North and South Carolina received devastating flooding as some regions recorded between 5-10 inches of rain. Many people had to be rescued from flooded homes. Further north, Fred brought more heavy rains and spawned two tornadoes—one in Pennsylvania and one in New Jersey—as it moved through the Northeast United States. 5 people have died as a result of this storm system as of this writing.
