Personal Tales of Reconciling Observations and Theory
Room 811 AOSS, April 5, 2017, 2:30 PM
Scientists often separate into more theoretical or more observationally-based camps. Similarly, models come in varying complexities. On the theoretical end, some models are maximally simple, designed mostly to demonstrate a theory or look at emergent properties. On the more observational end, others are designed to mimic nature as fully as possible. A common thread in my career thus far (and that of many scientists) has been reconciling these observational and theoretical worlds. I will describe some research Iíve done through this lens, and talk about how both observations and theory have shaped some of the problems Iíve pursued.
